Motivations and barriers of companies for shifting towards circularity

Paula Hild has created a poster, presenting selective results from her PhD research. The poster was presented at the Europe Summer College on Socio-Spatial Dynamics held by the Regional Studies Association (RSA) in Cagliari, Sardinia in September. Her preliminary results indicate interdependence between what a circular economy model for Luxembourg means and the actors. She further finds that the implementation of circular practices in businesses depends primarily on return on investment, general regulatory pressure and on the maturity of the business and the industry. In general, the research shows that a lack of technological solutions is not the main barrier for circular activities, the vision for the future for circularity is rather dependent on the awareness of the concept. Interviewees indicated that the way forward towards implementation of circular practices in the building industry needs a regulatory framework.
